Brigantia, one of the many names she was known by, was a Pagan Celtic Goddess of physicians, healing, divination and prophesy. Breo-saighead, one of her ancient names attributes to her, punishment and divine justice. Her evolution from Pagan Celtic Goddess to Saint, linked both Celtic and Christian traditons.
Her marriage to Bres was an alliance to bring peace to the Danu and the Fomorians. Her eldest son Ruadan, killed the smith, sacred to his mother's tribe, who, as he lay dying killed Ruadan. Brigantia's grief was not only for her son but also for the enmity betweeen maternal and paternal factions. Her lamentations were said to be the first heard in Ireland.

Brigantia was originally created to practice painting a face for 'Daughter of Darknes' [link] and also to practice painting hair movement and create a background by using brushes to add detail and depth to the base. I learned a lot doing it and feel that it has evolved enough to be uploaded as 'Brigantia', whom I have wanted to create for a long time.
