END OF THE LINE

Every morning on her way to work, she crossed the bridge and gazed longingly at the trains leaving the interstate railway terminal below. As usual, she wished that she could find the courage to buy a ticket to the end of the line, any line and begin her life anew.

She was finding it increasingly difficut to cope with the violence and the constant abuse that had become her way of life. She had ignored everyone's advice, thinking that he would change after their marriage but he had become much worse and she knew it could only end with injury or worse for her.

One morning as she stopped at her usual place on the bridge to gaze at the trains below, she checked her watch to make sure she had plenty of time, then picking up her two battered suitcases, she smiled as she walked quickly down the stairs towards the ticket office.
